What Is It?
The
Pacific Path program is a
non-violent, conflict resolution
approach developed by the
International Center for Conflict
Resolution and Mediation (ICCRM),
based out of Montreal. Better known
in some parts of the province by its
French name, Vers le Pacifique,
Pacific Path promotes peaceful
solutions to playground problems.
Why SES?
Sherbrooke
Elementary School was fortunate
enough to be chosen as a pilot
school in the English system, and
received a special association
contract with the ICCRM. The
association contract has given the
school access to a number of free
resources, as well as a number of
staff and school workshops.
How Does It Work?
The Pacific Path
program consist of 9 themes/lessons.
Teachers cover one theme every three
to four weeks. During the first year
students will develop a common
vocabulary, and a common approach to
conflicts. During the second year of
implementation the program begins to
build on the previous year's themes
to build a school mediation program. |
The Four Steps:
- Calm down
- Talk about
the conflict
- Search for
solutions together
- Find/choose a
solution together
