Magog, November 26, 2009- It is with mixed emotions that Mr.
Mr. Canuel joined the ETSB as Director General, on November 1, 1999 following a career in education spanning three decades. In the ten years that he has held this position, his leadership and vision have brought the school board into prominence as an outstanding educational organization through his innovative and student focused approach. As the pedagogical leader of the ETSB he has spearheaded such initiatives as bi-literacy, one-to-one laptop deployment (ELS) and an Early Intervention program. These initiatives have led to increased student success and have reduced drop outs. Simultaneously he has led the ETSB to recognition as an educational leader world-wide. During his tenure Mr. Canuel has negotiated partnerships with internationally renowned organizations such as the Cirque du Soleil and opened negotiations to share expertise with countries such as
Mr. Canuel has been recognized for his accomplishments and the success of the school board; receiving numerous awards such as the National EXL Award for Excellence and Leadership in Education, National Technology and Innovation Award and the Sélection, Reader’s Digest 2008 Hero of the Year Award, Education category. The National School Boards Association (NSBA) of the
Mr. Murray added that Mr. Canuel’s legacy of continuous innovation; rising expectations and pedagogical excellence have infused the Eastern Townships School Board with a culture of constant change and improvement. His outstanding contributions will continue to inspire the Board for years to come.
