New Building Inaugurated
at the Brome-Missisquoi Campus
COWANSVILLE, November 10, 2008 – The Eastern Townships School Board (ETSB) and
the Commission scolaire du Val-des-Cerfs (CSVDC) inaugurated a new facility at the
Brome-Missisquoi Campus this morning, which was the fruit of a unique partnership. The
$6-million new building will allow professional training and adult education services to be
combined under one roof – for English and French speaking clients.
This accomplishment means the Brome-Missisquoi Campus now has a spacious commercial
dining hall and a modern kitchen workshop for practical training in professional cooking. In
addition, ultramodern classrooms are available to students for accounting and secretarial courses.
Administrative facilities and a welcoming and practical reception area complete the new site.
“We are extremely pleased with the quality and efficiency of the new facilities,” said
Carole McCarthy, Director of the Brome-Missisquoi Campus.
In addition to offering these modern new facilities, the project distinguished itself through
leadership in uniting both adult education and vocational training services and English and
French speaking clients – an obvious advantage for students who now have better access to all
the services.
“The successful accomplishment of this single-wicket approach is the fruit of close cooperation
between two school boards of different languages over the past years. We are very proud of
this,” said Michael Murray, chair of the ETSB.
A model of sustainable development
Since the beginning of this project, sustainable development was a priority during construction of
the new Brome-Missisquoi Campus building. Geothermics, a solar wall, insulation of soy foam
and motion-detector lighting are just a few of the many environmental approaches adopted in the
project.
“Environmental protection is now a growing concern in our society. We believed it was essential
that the new building reflect current social priorities,” said Guy Vincent, chair of the CSVDC.
The financial partnership between the two school boards gave the project greater scope. The total
cost of about $6 million was funded by the Quebec Ministère de l’Éducation, du Loisir et du
Sport (MELS) ($2.9 million), the federal Department of Canadian Heritage ($2.3 million), the
ETSB and CSVDC ($160 000 each) and the Brome-Missisquoi Campus ($100 000). Each school
board also borrowed $225 000, as authorized by the MELS, which will be repaid from the
savings realized out of the new building’s energy costs.
The Brome-Missisquoi Campus currently serves 467 students. Adult education is offered to
students who want to complete their high school diploma, as well as CEGEP prerequisites and
equivalency certificates. Nine professional training programs are also provided. Courses may be
taught in English or French. For more information on the Brome-Missisquoi Campus, visit
