Five new faces on the Council of Commissioners
MAGOG, November 14 – The new members of the Council of Commissioners for the Eastern Townships School Board (ETSB) were sworn in at the November 13th meeting of the Council. In all 19 individuals took their oath of office conducted by the returning officer, with the two Parent Commissioners being sworn in by the Secretary General. All 19 wards that make up the territory of the Eastern Townships School Board have been filled with elections being held in wards 3 and 15.
The elections produced one new member to the council, Mrs. Diane Hudson for Sutton and a return to the council for incumbent Douglas Sullivan in Lennoxville. Both elections showed a high voter participation turnout, with Lennoxville topping the provincial average for Anglophone boards of 17% with a turnout rate of 29%. The ETSB had the second highest voter participation rate among the provinces 9 English school boards with 23%. This commitment to Anglophone institutions and their governance shows the high level of involvement and dedication of these communities.
Of the 19 wards covering the ETSB, there will be five new faces. Four of these individuals were elected by acclamation: Mr. Pierre Bell representing Cowansville, Mr. Theodore Creary representing Magog, Mrs. Diane Jones representing Mansonville and Mrs. Isabelle Chatelain representing Granby. The remaining 12 seats have all been re-elected by acclamation: Brenda Bailey for Drummondville, Gordon Barnett for
Coaticook, Peter Channell for Stanstead, Duncan Eastman for Bury/Cookshire/Sawyerville, Richard Gagnon for Knowlton, Gary Holliday for Richmond, Joy Humenuik-Campbell for Farnham, Patricia Keenan-Adank for Danville, Frank MacGregor for Fleurimont Alice McCrory for Waterloo, Michael Murray for Bedford, Larry Smith for Sherbrooke, Bruno Vanasse for North Hatley.
At the first meeting of the Parents Committee on October 5th 2007 the following individuals were elected as parent commissioners to represent the parents committee and parents at large at the Council of Commissioners. Lyne Duval was re-elected as the parent commissioner representing the high schools and Terry Poulin was elected as parent Commissioner representing the elementary.
At the November 13th meeting of the Council of Commissioners, Michael Murray was elected as chairman and Frank MacGregor as Vice Chair for a period of 4 years by their fellow commissioners. The following commissioners were elected by their peers to form the executive committee for a two year term: Duncan Eastman, Richard Gagnon, Joy Humenuik-Campbell, Patricia Keenan-Adank, Frank MacGregor and Douglas Sullivan. Both parent commissioners and the Chairman are automatically members of the executive committee.
