Eastern Townships School Board’s Director General wins prestigious National EXL Award for Excellence and Leadership in Education.
Winnipeg, October 14, 2006 – The Canadian Association of School Administrators (CASA), in collaboration with Xerox Canada Ltd., awarded Mr. Ronald Canuel with the National EXL Award, an award for Excellence and Leadership in Education. This award recognizes excellence among members of the superintendency in Canada. Mr. Canuel was nominated by the Association of Directors General for the English School Boards of Quebec (ADGESBQ) who highlighted the Eastern Townships School Board’s Enhanced Learning Strategy (ELS) and School’s Target Achievement and Results Team (START) as outstanding accomplishments.
Being chosen from the provincial finalists to receive this national award is truly an important recognition of Mr. Canuel’s visionary leadership from both his provincial colleagues at the ADGESBQ and his Canadian colleagues at CASA. “These initiatives (ELS and START) were derived from an examination of existing paradigms in education and the subsequent need to think outside of the box with approaches to learning that would directly impact student achievement. This was accomplished through programs that support and engage staff and recognize and foster innovation and excellence. This recognition is an honour and is directly attributable to the hard work and dedication of the students, administrators, teachers, professionals, support staff and commissioners of the Eastern Townships School Board. I share this award with them as it signals the excellence and success of the ETSB.” stated Ronald Canuel.
The Dennis McCullough Initiative-Enhanced Learning Strategy is the only systemic deployment of a 1:1 laptop program from grades 3 through to adult education in the country. The goals of the ELS are to empower our personnel, to promote excellence throughout the system and to increase student achievement. The mission of START is “to enhance lifelong learning and to foster the success of all students providing support and recognition to the school community”. The EXL Award is based on the premises of leadership that exemplifies dedication, enthusiasm and character in an environment of lifelong learning.
