Eastern Townships School Board receives authorization for
$3.3 million in Infrastructure Improvements.
Magog, November 25, 2008 - Mr. Michael Murray, Chairman of the Eastern
Townships School Board (ETSB), announced that the ETSB received authorization to
proceed with infrastructure improvements in the amount of approximately $3.3 million.
Under the measure Résorption du déficit d’entretien, the Ministre de l’Éducation, du
Loisir et du Sport has allocated $1,302,094 for the ETSB and under the measure Maintien
des bâtiments an amount of $1,989,021 has been retained, both for the 2008-2009 school
year. “I am happy to announce that our wish-list has been accepted. These amounts will
allow us to catch up on many of our infrastructure projects that we have had to put on
hold.” stated Mr. Murray at the November 25th meeting of the Council of Commissioners.
The $3.3 million will cover such projects as window and door replacements, roof
resurfacing, and other general maintenance upgrades. “The challenge now will be to find
qualified contractors that are available to complete these projects, keeping in mind that
other school boards on our territory also received funding. We will do our utmost to
complete as many of the projects as possible before the start of the 2009-2010 school
year.” explained Mr. Roch Tremblay, Coordinator of Buildings and Equipment for the
ETSB.
These funding announcements are over and above the school board’s budgeted capital
expenditures for the 2008-2009 school year. The projects that are slated for completion
will complement the ETSB’s objective of providing a safe and healthy environment for
its students and staff as stated in the 2008-2013 strategic plan.
