Dear Parents,

Another month has flown by and we have been busy here at Knowlton Academy. Take the time to carefully read the information below since many things will be happening in October. We continue to appreciate your usual support and collaboration. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have questions concerning our programs.

Sincerely,

Nathalie Chartrand

General Assembly and Meet the Teachers: The evening went really well. We thanked the outgoing Governing Board members, Kathie Battley, Caroline Hui and Jason Edwards for their excellent work over the past two years. We elected 4 new Governing Board members this year.  Their names are Tania Moffat, Heather Croghan, Garin Meacher and Jason Edwards, reelected for another two year mandate. Kellie Hume, Joanne Croghan, Nate Forster and Tim Wiebe will continue their second year mandate this year. Congratulations to all!

Terry Fox Run:  In order to launch our 2010-2011 Terry Fox campaign, we invited Shannon McGovern and her son Jack Woodard to come and talk about their experience with leukemia. Their speech was very touching and inspirational, a big thank you to them for sharing their story with us! Also, I would like to say thank you to all of you for your generosity, our students and staff raised about $6000 for Cancer Research this year. Despite the rainy conditions, we ran like Terry did thirty years ago, rain or shine! Congratulations and appreciation to Nicolas Lemaître and his team of staff and volunteers for leading this event.

Citrus: Our annual Citrus Fruit Campaign in support of End of Year Trips and Activities will take place between October 4th and October 22nd. Last year, we sold over $20 000 of fruits. We hope to even do better this year! Delivery will be the week of November 15th. Congratulations to Judy Cowan for her leadership in this campaign.

Spaghetti Supper:  Knowlton Academy’s main fundraiser will be on October 23rd this year. Make sure to read all the information concerning this special event. The PPO relies on these funds to support the many activities enjoyed by students (end of year awards, classroom materials, Science Fair, extra-curricular activities, library, etc…). Fantastic auction items and desserts were given to us last year, we hope to be able to count on your generosity again this year. Congratulations and appreciation to the PPO for their excellent and ongoing work in support of the best interests of the students of Knowlton Academy.  If you wish to join the PPO, it is never too late, call us at school for further information.

Homework Program:  You are receiving the information concerning the 2010-2011 Homework Program. This popular program will begin Tuesday, October 12th.  You should register quickly since places are limited.  This year, it operates from Monday to Thursday, from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. with pick-up at the Daycare door.

Photo Retakes:  Please note that retakes of school photos will take place on the morning of Wednesday, October 27th. If you regularly volunteer at Knowlton Academy and did not get your picture taken yet, come that day so we can get you a volunteer pass with your picture on it. Thanks!
