March News Update

Dear Parents/Guardians,

I would like to welcome all students back from March break. I hope that you all took a little time to relax and enjoy the beautiful weather! This week off was the perfect time to play outside and have fun with your family and friends!

Spring is upon us and with it will come longer days. Do not forget to turn your clocks ahead this weekend! Only a few more months before the end of the school year, keep it up, your collaboration is necessary for the success of all students!

We have been busy at Knowlton Academy and will continue to be…

Ski Program: went well again this year. The children had a lot of fun and learned new skills. The instructors were very good and the students well behaved like usual. Congratulations to Rylie Thompson in Mrs. Kay’s class who won a $200 voucher at Sutton Snow School at the incentive drawing held on December 21st. Thanks and appreciation to Nick Lemaître for his leadership of the Ski Program, as well as to his generous team of volunteers who offer tireless support and who received training. Also, a big thank you to all teachers for their tremendous help during this program!

Basketball: The basketball season has come and gone and the students at Knowlton Academy who took part were able to improve their skills and once again, earn a few ETEAA plaques for their school. We are very proud of our students, they have demonstrated good sportsmanship and skills! Way to go!

Colombian Students: On January 28th, we welcomed eight Colombian students to Knowlton Academy. They stayed with us for three weeks. Things went well and they really enjoyed their visit. A special thank you to Josie Gibbs, Lynn McKelvey and Anne Ferland who welcomed them in their classrooms and adapted their teaching to the needs of these visitors! This experience has been a rich one for these classes and all of our students.

CanSpell:  The Knowlton Academy Spelling Bee was held on Wednesday, January 12. Congratulations to Owen Teolis who won the Knowlton Academy CanSpell competition and to Elizabeth Donovan who also performed very well.  Owen represented Knowlton Academy on February 20th at McGill University for the CanSpell Regional Spelling Bee in Montreal, where some of the top spellers in Quebec were competing. Owen made it to the fourth round, congratulations! Our thanks go to Wendy Harvey for her leadership in organizing the CanSpell activities.

2011-2012 Registration:  We have started the registrations for the upcoming school year.  Forms were issued to our current students.  If your child or the child of someone you know wishes to register as a new student for the upcoming school year (Kindergarten or any other grade), please call the office to schedule an appointment with Brenda Scott (450-243-6187).  Please circulate the news throughout the community.

Academy Bistro: The Bistro was open to the public at noon on February 21st.  The luncheon was a success once again. Our students welcomed the community members with a lot of professionalism. Thank you to Debbie Brodie and Lynn Plouffe for their leadership in this program.

Debbie Brodie got a surgery on February 24th. We wish her a speedy recovery. We would like to welcome Louise Greenland as Debbie’s replacement.

Public Speaking: This event was held on February 21st and went very well especially because of the leadership of Josie Gibbs, our secondary 1 teacher. Thanks to all the judges!
