COVID-19 Update Message for Parents

Dear Parents,

As promised, we are following up with information about the COVID-19 situation and how it is impacting our schools.

As previously stated all ETSB schools and centres are closed and not accessible from Monday March 16th to Friday March 27th inclusively.  Parents cannot go to schools to pick up belongings that may have been left there during this period.

Over the weekend we have learned that 3 of our elementary schools have been chosen as emergency daycare service sites, namely Heroes’ Memorial, Parkview Elementary and Waterloo Elementary. These schools will be offering daycare services to people who work in the essential services areas such as health care, police, etc. They are not accessible for students that go to these schools unless one of the parents are working for essential services.

If you are an essential service employee and need daycare services please see this link for more information on where daycares are available and how to register for them.

We also realize that the current situation can be very stressful and children may not fully understand what is going on, or may feel afraid and insecure. It is important to recognize their concerns and talk with them. Below you will find some links to websites that can help you talk to your child about what is going on.

As always, we want to remind you of the basic precautions you must take to try and stay safe and avoid the spread of the virus. Please visit the government website for  recommendations as well.

Wash your hands often with soap under warm running water for at least 20 seconds.

  • Use an alcohol-based hand rub if soap and water are not available.

  • Practice proper cough and sneeze etiquette by covering your mouth and nose with your arm to reduce the spread of germs.

  • If you use a tissue, dispose of it as soon as possible and wash your hands afterwards.

  • Practice social distancing and avoid large crowds

We will keep you informed as we receive more information.

Thank you for your understanding and patience.

Interim Director General
